About John Hawkins
John Hawkins has been teaching Hatha Yoga since 1998.
He facilitates a deeper understanding of Yoga through Behind the Yoga – click here for the Behind the Yoga site.
John’s life is rich with experiences, from a stint in Divinity School to a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts. As an artist, spiritual thinker, and writer, his approach to Yoga includes the physical and the philosophical, with a focus on the mind half of the mind/body equation. His goal is for students to feel ease, lightness of heart, and to express themselves fully in their daily lives. He graduated from the International Seminary for Interfaith Studies summer of 2013.
John Hawkins, certified as an Integral Yoga Teacher, presents a well-rounded, meditative practice, addressing the entire body, physically and energetically. The result is a healthy and “ease-ful” body, a profoundly balanced energy, and a deeply relaxed state of mind. Integral Yoga addresses the core of one’s body, while reaching the core of one’s life.
“As a Yoga instructor I work to present the safest means of practicing posture (asana) and breathing techniques (pranayama) to fit the needs of each student. It is my job to show that the asanas are not templates, in which we try to squeeze the body. Each posture works as a dialogue with the body.
“As a Yoga teacher I am dedicated to providing Yoga in its fullness, a practice that allows us to reach beyond the mat and into our lives. Yoga is more than a series of exercises. It is a way of life. It is a method in which we can learn to create our lives and not be subject to the circumstances of our lives.” This is the subject of “At the Heart of It” which explores our innermost beliefs and addresses our issues concerning sexuality, forgiveness, contentment, and God.”
I mostly enjoyed being inspired through this workshop and think all practitioners will receive depth and further their experience of Yoga. Thank you. It was wonderful for me. – Michal Retter – Yoga Teacher; Bellingham, WA
